课程成果丨定性研究与学术写作 Qualitative Methods and Academic Writing

课程介绍 / About Studio 2


Research and writing skills are essential for any design research and practitioner. In this Studio, participants learnt the fundamentals of qualitative research and academic writing. The teaching focus was placed on design strategy and management as an emerging and interdisciplinary field of research. Participants learnt how to formulate a research question, define aims and objectives, and make appropriate choices among the qualitative methods available to design strategy and management scholars (e.g. case study, grounded theory, ethnographic methods, …). They also learnt how to frame and format an academic paper and gained first-hand experience of writing a research proposal in design strategy and management.

对于任何一个设计研究者和从业人员来说,研究和写作技巧都是必不可少的。在这堂课上,来自设计战略与管理2023级的研究生们学习了定性研究和学术写作的基础知识。课程教学聚焦新兴的跨学科研究领域“设计战略和管理”。在老师的带领下,学生学习如何制定研究问题,确定研究目标和目的,并在设计策略和管理学者常用的定性方法(例如案例研究、扎根理论、人种学方法等)中做出适当的选择。他们还学习了如何架构一篇学术论文,用正确的格式规范书写,并获得了撰写设计策略和管理研究提案的第一手经验。


Studio 2 extended the learning experience of Studio 1 (on conducting a literature review in design strategy and management) and prepared students for writing their master’s dissertations. The Studio employed an active approach to teaching and learning: It consisted of interactive lectures, blended with lab sessions where students engaged in research methods and fine-tuned their writing skills. Studio 2 concluded with a conference, where participants presented their research in a poster format. The student posters were then exhibited in the College of Design & Innovation. This presentation and showcase enabled participants to share their knowledge, receive feedback from faculty members, and ultimately gain confidence and passion in their academic skills.

Studio 2 扩展了Studio 1 的学习体验(后者关于如何进行设计策略和管理方面的文献综述),并为学生撰写硕士论文做好准备。本课程采用积极的教学方式:它由基于互动的讲座和实验环节组成,学生可以在实验课上学习多种学术研究方法并提升写作技巧。Studio 2 最后进行了课程成果的汇报,学生们以海报形式展示他们的研究成果,随后在设计创意学院一楼进行展出。通过课堂汇报和海报展示,学生们分享了他们的知识,获得了教学团队的反馈,并最终培养出对自己学术水平的信心和热爱。

As visible from the below screenshots, students dealt with exciting and timely topics, such as the involvement of artificial intelligence in design education and practice, the integration of circular economy in product and service design, and the realization of social innovation across different cultures. Further topics included the role of surprises in design and designing, addressing the research-practice gap in design, and conceptualizing embodiment, cognition as well as unconsciousness in design. This is a testament to the rich and diversified research that is conducted in the College, both basic and applied, and true to the motto “to learn and create, for a meaningful life and a better world!”

从以下成果海报中可以看到,学生们讨论的话题既激动人心又贴合时代,例如人工智能在设计教育和实践中的应用,循环经济在产品和服务设计中的融合,以及跨文化社会创新的实现。另一些主题包括探讨设计中的诧异对设计过程的作用,处理设计中研究与实践的割裂,以及在设计中如何对具身性、认知和无意识进行概念化。这些话题也表明我院开展的基础和应用研究丰富多样,并践行着“为人生的意义和世界的未来而学习和创造 ”的院训。


Studio 2 is offered in the Master in “Design Strategy & Management.” It is open also to other students at Tongji University. The Studio lecturer was Alice Comi; special thanks go to Francesca Valsecchi, Hyejin Lee, and Linlin Yang, who participated as discussants in the conference; as well as to the administration and technical teams at D&I for their continuous help and support.

Studio 2 是设计创意学院“设计战略与管理”硕士方向的一门课程,同时也面向同济大学的其他学生开放。该课程由 Alice Comi主讲;在此亦特别感谢 Francesca Valsecchi、Hyejin Lee 和 Linlin Yang 参与最终汇报的讨论,以及学院行政及技术团队一直以来的帮助和支持。
